Night snow

A thick blanket of beautiful white snow fell during the night last night...we weren't sure how much we were supposed to get, but my guess is it's about a foot out there.  So, Danny's home and I'm home because I am assuming my PALS class was cancelled.

Now, the great news this week is that our pre approval for a mortgage came in...hooray!  Still pending employment in Georgia.  And did I mention I have only one job interview and my husband has like 8????

What is up with that?

This was last night around 11 pm when we did the majority of the shoveling.
It was so beautiful out.

the bathroom renovation/repair continues...spackle layer 3.....

THIS little girl got my camera and took, oh, i don't know...like 125 pictures of random things??

lenders

what a whirlwind week.  Momma and Jeff came for a visit..the kids miss them so much.  they hung on then for four days!  Now yesterday the kids were off to celebrate MLK holiday and this morning we woke to an ice storm.  yuk.  so no school again.  boo hoo.

but that does not mean we are not doing anything.  well, i didn't do anything yesterday except get my passport photo taken (what a mugshot that is!) and get my GA application notarized.  and i also found out that I DO have a copy of my real marriage certificate.  sadly, i don't know why i didn't realize it, the post office was closed so the mailing of the application will  have to happen later today. (once the ice clears...umm)  and then there is also a trip to the dentist because my tooth chipped.  umm.  can you say annoying?

so hubby and i have sat each night chatting up the whole moving process and talking about ALL the mortgage lenders we have talked to.  Omg is it so many.  how to choose?  rates, i suppose.  one guy asked me yesterday how i was going to paymy mortgage if i didn't have a job in georgia yet.  ummm.  how about, i'm going to get one?  i hope.  one interview.  that's all i have.  hubby has like 6.  i guess it's ok.  all i need is one job.  i wish it were closer to where we are going to live, but it's ok. we all know i want to be a farmer anywhohow!

happy day!

the kitchen....revealed!

I finally finished painting the kitchen and the ceiling.  It's not the best kitchen in the world.  Or the fanciest.
But it's my kitchen.  The kitchen where I cook meals for our family.  Where my kids race trucks across the floor.  Where we congregate in the morning, deciding what to have for breakfast.  It's the place the lone fishy watches over.  Hard to believe our mornings (soon) will be in another kitchen :)

the paint is from FreshAire...pinecone is the color.  love the contrast against the cabinets.  I think it makes it look crisp and sharp.  Very neutral.  Red would look beautiful as an accent.  Crimson or cinnamon.  and the ceiling turned out great just replacing a few tiles and a new coat of paint.  whew!

I ordered a small table and stools...that should be here next week.  then it's all done~!

the girls in the bucket.
why is it that kids love to sit in these?
Even funnier, I pointed out to my husband that the lid
has a label "to not place child in a close lid"
kind of a no brainer?

oh lordy.  he kills me.

today, Sam decided it would be a good idea to stuff his baby sisters legs into one leg of her footie jammies then drag her across the dining room floor.  I was alerted to this action by bigger sister Emma.
See why I can't turn my back for a minute?
he even looks mischevious, doesn't he?

happi day!

CREATIVE FUN FOR KIDS

With five kids, four being under the age of six, I have to be pretty creative to come up with things for them to do.  One of the biggest misconceptions is that we must entertain our kids.  Not so.  I have found that providing just a few simple items, my kids entertain themselves for hours!  Plus, they get to use their imaginations and be creative!

Here's some ideas for fun things we like to do in the house and outside!

Playdoh.  You can make your own (here's a recipe from essortment.com) or use the store bought kind.
I recently purchased a playdoh set with rolling pins, cutters, etc, but you really can use anything from your kitchen.  Break  out the cookie cutters and rolling pins and the kids will  have a blast.  We like to make snowmen in the winter...use toothpicks for arms!

The Craft Box:  I keep a box full of glue sticks, pipecleaners, pom poms, foam shapes, stamps, yarn, stickers, craft sticks and a hodge podge of paint.  On any given day, kids can make lots of little projects putting all these things together.  Add some macaroni from the cabinet and you can make your own macaroni art, or string it on some yarn for a fun necklace!  I also pick up craft projects from the dollar bins at Michaels' and AC Moore to give them another option for a gift per say?

Paper and Crayons:  What could be more simple?  Being a scrapbooker, I have oodles of leftover paper scraps and 12 x 12 sheets that I wont' ever use, so I relinquish these to my kids.  My daughter draws masterpieces of portraits of everyone in the family.  We have crayons and markers and colored pencils.  Even Sam gets in on it.  His scribbles may be considered art by some!  Folding paper can also be fun.  Fold it up, cut little snippets and see what kind of pattern comes out.  Great for kids learning cutting skills and patterning.  I must say, our crayon bin and papers get used every single day

Collage:  Found items from the outdoors (leaves, a pine cone) can find their way onto a texture filled collage board.  Take a small artist canvas and glue the items on.  Add pictures from magazines and bigs of fabric and ribbon and you have a creative unique piece of wall art.

Sorting:  My daughter loves to sort and count.  Like items, unlike items.  Buttons, small toys, ribbons.  She lines them up, groups them together, collects them in little bins.  Helps with her counting skills too!  Just be mindful of the choking hazards of small items.

Salt Dough:  Oh this is an easy and fun project to do.  You can make snowmen, ghosts, you name it.  If you can shape it, you can make it.  Let it air dry and you can paint it too!  Here's an easy recipe from easychildcrafts.com.

Crochet and Weaving:  Crocheting and using a weaving loom are excellent craft projects for a young child.  They can build up their skills and do more intricate projects.  Weaving looms are great for potholders to give as gifts.  With a little parenteral help, they can really master this.  On a funny side note, my daughters potholder loom will have to be replaced.  Her younger brother decided to use it as a necklace and got it stuck around his head.  Thankfully we didn't have to call the fire department to remove it.  My husband simply wrapped a towel around it and broke it to remove it.  Oh the perils of having children!  So Sam owe's sissy a loom.

Just wanted to share some fun that we do around the house all day...have other ideas...leave me a comment!

Welcome to January!

Well, now I know it's the middle of the month...nearly, but welcome anyway!  Our month is so busy it's flying by...quicker than we think.  Painting and decluttering is filling our days.  Re-organizing and getting our home ready for the market...

can't wait...only a few more weeks and we'll be lounging around on Tybee Island...taking in the sights, interviewing, house hunting (yah!!)and just enjoying a well deserved break.  I spent my morning repainting the kitchen and cleaning (ugh!), but it's well worth the effort (and the sore fingertips)

We can't wait to start looking for our new home and meeting all the new people!  I'm dreaming of warm weather, magnolia tree's, peaches, and a beautiful lavender garden....I picture a little barn, filled with drying herbs...such a simple, pure life.  Away from the craziness....oh what a dream.

work.   what to do about that.  kind of burnt out.  kind of not.  good living.  not sure where my heart will take me.  have lots of aspirations, dreams.  funny to be so full of dreams at 40.  starting a new life.

blessings.
